It all started on
Google Sheets.
Where it began.
I was a migration law student, and I’d had enough. Every time I needed to check an occupation, it meant opening tab after tab — scrolling through dense legislative documents, hunting for the right table in the right instrument, cross-referencing the right list — and then doing it all over again for the next question.
Who’s the assessing authority? Is there a labour agreement pathway? And wait, each DAMA has its own concessions?
I wasn’t alone in this. Prospective migrants, students, even experienced agents repeat some version of this process every single day.
So the spreadsheet grew. Columns multiplied. Tabs accumulated. And eventually, Skillindex was born.
The information was always public. It just wasn’t accessible. Buried in legislative instruments, scattered across government websites, formatted for compliance rather than for people.
Skillindex exists to change that — to consolidate what’s available and put it in one place, clearly, and for free.
Australian migration law is broad, precise, and constantly evolving. Skillindex is a living tool, and we keep building. But I hope it serves as a genuine starting point for your research — wherever you are in your journey.
A note on advice
Nothing on Skillindex is immigration advice. The content is provided as a reference, and wherever possible, we’ve linked directly to the source so you can verify it yourself. Migration law is complex — please do your own research, or speak with a Registered Migration Agent if you need guidance.
To everyone looking for a future in Australia — good luck.
I hope Skillindex plays a small part in getting you there.
